Puff pastry strips are wrapped around apple slices and baked to make these pastry “flowers.” They need only a few ingredients and can be pulled together in just about a half hour.
Ingredients
- 2 apples (use firm, tart apples—Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, or Granny Smith will all work)
- 1 box puff pastry, thawed overnight in fridge
- 1 egg
- Sugar
- Powdered sugar
Instructions
- Peel the apples and cut them into slices.
- Remove the center from each slice.
- Unroll the puff pastry onto a clean surface. Cut it into strips with a pizza cutter.
- Wrap the pastry strips around the apple rings (going through the center with each wrap).
- Place the pastry flowers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush them with egg, and sprinkle with sugar.
- If the pastry is too warm, it won’t puff, so place flowers in fridge for 30 minutes before baking (optional step)
- Bake in the oven at 200°C/400°F for 20 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
- Serve and enjoy!
